I just ran across this article from Popular Mechanics that covers some very interesting aspects of the new mid-engine Corvette's development. The very first running prototype was disguised as an Australian Holden ute! Well, the nose was Holden, the cabin was C7 and the bed was tacked on. Yes, that odd black vehicle below is the genesis of the new Corvette. Fascinating article and a good read, but too short. I could read a whole book on this topic; and likely one will be written someday. Enjoy!
